Threatened Species Surveyor - Wood White (South Northants and Rockingham Forest)
We need people to record Wood White at select sites in South Northamptonshire and Rockingham Forest from late May-June 2025 to assess the butterfly's response to recently completed habitat improvement works.
We are asking volunteers to complete timed count surveys at the following South Northants sites:
Sywell Wood and Hardwick Wood (on the A43 between Kettering and Northampton) and Salcey Forest (3 miles southeast of Northampton).
And in Rockingham Forest:
Fermyn Woods - Cherry Lap and Harry's Park (both next to Femryn Woods Country Park and Brigstock, nr. Corby), and Lilford Wood and Bearshank Wood (both nr. Lyveden New Bield, between Brigstock and Oundle).
Depending on whether or not the species has a second brood, further surveys could take place in August.
We are also keen to recruit volunteers to survey for Wood White at two other South Northants woodlands, Hazelborough Forest and Bucknell Wood (west of Silverstone racing circuit).
Surveys can be completed using a UKBMS timed count form OR by using the timed count function with the iRecord Butterflies app OR by submitting casual records through the iRecord Butterflies app, the iRecord website, or directly to County Butterfly Recorder, David James (dave.b.james@outlook.com).
After you have applied for the role, you will gain access to additional information on how to complete surveys and parking instructions for each site(s).
Thank you for your interest in this role!
