General Surveyor (Transport for London Wildflower Verges)
Our Surveyors help us to understand species in their local area and, by extension, across the UK.
At Butterfly Conservation, we want to create a world where butterflies and moths are enjoyed by everyone, forever. We need people to record various species and collect data. This data is used to inform decisions which help to conserve butterflies and moths, both locally and nationally.
You will be volunteering with a wide range of people helping us to monitor species in your local environment.
Transport For London across its road network has 260,000 square meters of Wildflower verges which equates to 37 football pitches and is expanding to increase this further. Butterfly Conservation is supporting TFL by recording the butterflies and moths which are being found in this valuable wild spaces. We are looking for volunteers to help us monitor the success of these sites by counting the butterflies which visit them during the spring and summer. Each volunteer recorder will be allocated a plot close to their home and asked to visit for just 20 minutes, four times a year. Our handy app will help you identify the different species and let us know the number of each. The information gathered will help us compile a monitoring report showing the trends and encouraging more habitat creation.
