UKBMS Transect Surveyor (Warton Crag - Carnforth, Lancashire)

Opportunity image

Our Transect Walkers help us to understand butterflies in their local area and, by extension, across the UK. They inspire people to better understand the butterflies that they see.

We are looking for more volunteers to help survey the transect at Warton Crag in the Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape. The transect at the Local Nature Reserve at Warton Crag was established in 2018 when the full Warton Crag LNR transect was split into two. It is 1.7km long. The habitat is dry semi/unimproved flower rich chalk/limestone grassland. It has a great range of species including Northern Brown Argus and Small-pearl bordered Fritillaries.

Please refer to the UKBMS website for mroe information about what is involved in carrying out a butterfly transect - https://ukbms.org/get-involved

For any queries about getting involved with this transect please contact the regional Transect Coordintaor, Chris White via chris.white@butterfly-conservation.goassemble.com.

There will be plenty of help and advice from Chris and previous transect surveyors for anyone interested in taking on this transect.

At Butterfly Conservation, we want to create a world where butterflies and moths are enjoyed by everyone, forever. We need people to walk transects to collect data. This data is used to inform decisions which help to conserve butterflies, both locally and nationally.

You will be volunteering with a wide range of people helping us to monitor butterflies in your local environment.
